Stock Market LIVE Updates | The extended trading week, caused by the Budget, began on a negative note, with the benchmark Nifty opening much lower and forming a gap down on the charts.

The trends on Gift Nifty also indicate a gap-down start for the Indian benchmark index. The Gift Nifty was trading around 22,932 level, a discount of nearly 180 points from the Nifty futures’ previous close.

The Nifty 50 index is trading 205.75 points or 0.89% lower at 22,886.45. As many as 41 index stocks are in the red, while nine other advance. Power Grid (-3.9%), Tech Mahindra (-3.19%) and Wipro (-2.80%) are the top losers.

The BSE Sensex declined 573.81 points or 0.75 per cent to 75,616.65. Nifty stood at 22,919.15, down 173.05 points or 0.75 per cent. Zomato Ltd declined 2 per cent to Rs 211 and was the worst Sensex performer.

Broader markets also mirrored the benchmarks as the Nifty Smallcap100 and Nifty Midcap100 indices ended down by 3.84 per cent and 2.75 per cent, respectively

Sensex lost 329.92 points or 0.43 per cent to end the week at 76,190.46. The Nifty 50 index fell 113.15 points or 0.49 per cent to close at 23,092.20. The Nifty Pharma and Oil & Gas indices dropped more than 2 per cent each.

The stock market opened in the green as trading began on Friday, January 24, with oil and gas, metal, mid and small cap financial services stocks falling the most. At 9:20am, the benchmark BSE Sensex was up by 220.
